Mid-range Sony Xperia 10 III Offers 5G Connectivity and Triple Lens Camera

The Sony Xperia 10 III is the company's first mid-range smartphone to offer 5G connectivity.

It has been enhanced for low light scene and moving object with a new triple lens camera (16mm, 27mm and 54mm) and has additional features such as the new animal detection in Auto mode.

The Xperia 10 III will be available in Black, Blue and White, shipping with Android 11 from early Summer 2021.

Sony A7S III Mirrorless Camera Offers "Best Ever 4K Recording"

The Sony Xperia 1 smartphone features technologies from the Alpha range of mirrorless cameras, including the World’s first Eye AF in a smartphone, triple lens camera and up to 10 fps burst shooting with AF/AE tracking.

Sony Mobile have announced two new smartphones to headline its flagship range, the Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact. The XZ2 offers the world’s 1st 4K HDR Movie recording in a smartphone. Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact are available globally from March 2018 and both will ship with Android 8.0 Oreo.

Sony are also showcasing a new ultra-high sensitivity camera technology at the Mobile World Congress show. This newly developed dual camera and Sony's  fusion image signal processor allows image capture in extremely dark conditions thanks to its unprecedented ISO sensitivity of 51200 for photos and ISO 12800 for video, which is currently only possible with inter-changeable lens cameras.

Sony Xperia XZ & Xperia X Compact

Sony today launched two new photography-focused smartphones. The Xperia XZ is a metal-backed 5.2" phablet with a Full HD screen, a 23-megapixel primary camera with a 1/2.3"-type Exmor RS imaging chip, a separate Laser AF sensor and an RGBC-IR (red-green-blue-clear-infrared) external white balance sensor, which accurately adjusts the white balance based on the light source in the environment. Additionally, the Xperia XZ provides a 13-megapixel front camera with a 22mm equivalent UWA lens and a top sensitivity setting of ISO 6,400. The Xperia X Compact is a more reasonably sized handset with a 4.6" 720p display, the same 23-megapixel main camera and "triple image sensing tecnology" as the Xperia XZ, and a 5-megapixel secondary camera for the selfie brigade. On both phones, the main camera module offers a start-up time of 0.6 seconds and Predictive Hybrid AF technology to intelligently predict and track subjects in motion. The Xperia XZ will launch globally in October 2016, whilst the Xperia X Compact will be available from September 2016.

Sony World Photography Awards Launch New Mobile Photography Award

The World Photography Organisation (WPO) today launched a new award dedicated to mobile photography at the 2015 Sony World Photography Awards. Sony has updated its PlayMemories Mobile smartphone app to Version 5.0. Available tomorrow, as a free download (iOS and Android), this handy app works with Sony’s QX10, QX30, QX100 and QX1 lens-style cameras, and provides faster one-touch wireless connection by NFC and offers a new touch shutter function that allows fumble-free shooting just by touching your phone screen. Other novelties include a redesigned graphical user interface, on-screen focus confirmation, on-demand grid lines and a new Mirror mode that lets you frame shots in confidence with the camera held at arm’s length. PlayMemories Mobile Version 5.0 for iOS and Android is available for free.

The Sony Xperia Z2 is a new waterproof smartphone with 4K Ultra HD movie recording and digital noise cancelling technology. Other photography/videoraphy related features include a 20.7-megapixel camera module incorporating a 1/2.3-type CMOS image sensor and Sony G lens, SteadyShot image stabilisation technology, 5.2" Full HD screen and a new Movie Creator, allowing you to trim and crop your videos so that you can easily pick out what you want to share. The Xperia Z2 will launch globally from March 2014.

Cinemartin Cinec 3.X

Cinemartin has released version 3.X of its Cinec video converter / encoder for Windows. Adding support for Cineform, Sony XAVC, XAVC-S and RED files (.r3d) as well as 4K Ultra HD videos created with Snapdragon 800 powered mobile devices; Cinec 3.X comes with a number of new features such sd Motion Picture Adjustments, Dual Preview Monitor and the ability to create transparent videos with the new Quicktime Animation preset. The software is available in Standard, Pro and Gold versions, priced at €99, €199 and €799 respectively.

Sony A5000

The Sony A5000 is billed as "the world’s smallest and lightest interchangeable-lens digital Wi-Fi camera" with an APS-C sized sensor and built-in flash. Headline specifications include a 20.1-megapixel imager, 180° tiltable LCD screen, NFC and Wi-Fi for one-touch sharing and remote control, and support for PlayMemories Camera Apps. Weighing in at 210 grams, the Sony A5000 features a redesigned hand-grip and a Sony E bayonet mount. An upgraded Time-lapse Ver.2.0 can now smoothly track changes to ambient brightness in a scene. The brand-new Sync to Smartphone function automatically transfers shots to a pre-registered smartphone or tablet each time the camera’s switched off. The transferred photos can then be automatically relayed to your PlayMemories Online account if the mobile device has the PlayMemories Online app installed and the All Sync feature enabled.

Sony Action Cam HDR-AS100VR

The splash-proof Sony Action Cam HDR-AS100VR wearable digital video camera is capable of capturing Full HD footage in XAVC S format at 50 Mbps. For the first time, up to five Action Cam HDR-AS100VR units can now be controlled wirelessly with the wearable wristwatch-style RM-LVR1. Footage is crisper and clearer thanks to the camera’s uprated Zeiss Tessar 170-degree wide-angle lens, 13.5 megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor and powerful new BIONZ X image processor, the company says. As an added extra, the new Action Cam can shoot high-quality video at high-speed 120 fps or 240 fps with sound. NFC (Near Field Communication) allows fuss-free hook-ups with compatible smartphones and tablets at a single touch, while the new Interval Still Recording mode allows the camera to automatically capture a sequence of still photos at selectable intervals between 1 and 60 seconds. The new Action Cam HDR-AS100VR wearable video camera goes on sale in the UK from April 2014.

The Sony A7R (α7R) is a compact system camera with a 35mm full-frame sensor offering 36.4 effective megapixels and no optical low-pass filter. The sensor emplys a new ‘gapless’ on-chip microlens design which eliminates gaps between adjacent pixels. These advances increase light collection efficiency, achieving outstanding resolution, sensitivity and low noise while circumventing the challenge of decreased pixel size due to the extremely high pixel count. Other highlights include a Sony E bayonet mount (designed to be used primarily with the company's new full-frame E-mount lenses), a dust/moisture-resistant magnesium alloy body, newly-developed fast intelligent auto focus, an improved XGA OLED electronic viewfinder, NFC and Wi-Fi capabilities, Full HD movie recording and 4K photo output for viewing on Ultra HD displays and TVs. Priced at £1600 / $2299 and available for pre-order, the Sony α7R will go on general sale in UK from mid-late November.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10

The Sony RX10 is a new bridge camera with a 20.2 megapixel 1.0-type back-illuminated CMOS imager and a 24-200mm (eq.) f/2.8 OSS lens. The newly developed Eye AF ensures crisp portraits with the sitter’s eye always in sharp focus, even if they’re not looking directly at you. Movie footage can be captured at selectable 50p (AVCHD progressive) or 25p frame rates, with full control over P/A/S/M exposure modes. Sony Xperia Z1

The Sony Xperia Z1 is an Android phone with a 1/2.3-type 20.7-megapixel sensor, a 27mm (eq.) f/2 lens and 1080p HDR video. Other highlights include a 5" Full HD display with a resolution of 441 dots. a range of photo-related apps, a dust- and water-resistant construction and a 3000mAh battery. The Sony Xperia Z1 is currently available to pre-order for £599 including taxes. Deliveries are expected to start at the end of September.

Sony DSC-QX10 and DSC-QX100

The Sony DSC-QX10 and DSC-QX100 lens-sensor modules attach to your smartphone to provide "image quality and creative options to rival a premium standalone [compact] camera." The 20-megapixel DSC-QX100 combines a fairly big 1"-type (13.2x8.8mm) sensor with a 28-100mm (eq.) f/1.8-4.9 lens, while the lighter, 18-megapixel DSC-QX10 offers a combination of a smaller 1/2.3"-type imager and a 25-250mm (eq.) f/3.3-5.9 zoom. Both the DSC-QX10 and DSC-QX100 boast a Bionz processor, Optical Steady Shot and Wi-Fi with NFC (Near-Field Communications). Both are capable of shooting 1440x1080-pixel videos at 30fps, and each comes with a proprietary lithium-ion battery. The Sony DSC-QX10 and DSC-QX100 attach to your smartphone with the supplied adapter that fits several popular models. Going on sale at the end of September, both modules (or "lens-style cameras" as Sony calls them) are available to pre-order now via the website below. Sony Action Cam HDR-AS30V

The Action Cam HDR-AS30V is a new, wearable Full HD camcorder from Sony. The newest Action Cam features an 11.9-megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor, a Carl Zeiss Tessar lens with a diagonal angle of view of 170 degrees, Wi-Fi connectivity with NFC (Near Field Communications) and GPS. The in-built Wi-Fi enables the Sony Action Cam HDR-AS30V to connect the optional RM-LVR1 Live-View Remote. This waterproof wristwatch-style controller communicates wirelessly to Action Cam, allowing ‘hands-off’ operation when the camera is mounted in hard-to-reach places like your helmet, kayak or surfboard. The new Action Cam HDR-AS30V from Sony is available in UK from the end of September, priced at £260.

Sony A99 and HX50 Win EISA Awards

This year, Sony has won two photography-related EISA awards. The company's flagship camera, the Alpha SLT-A99, has been recognised with the 'European Advanced Camera of the year 2013-2014' title, while the Cyber-shot DSC-HX50 superzoom (pictured) has scooped up the 'European Compact Camera of the year 2013-2014' award. Beyond photography, the company has also received accolades in the television, HT receiver and tablet categories.

Sony Xperia XR

Sony Mobile Communications have just revealed their latest smartphone, the Sony Xperia ZR, which is claimed to offer the "highest level of water-resistance" for capturing photos underwater. The Android-powered Xperia ZR, which is capable of shooting Full HD videos, comes with a 13-megapixel camera module and a 4.6-inch, 1280x720-pixel "HD Reality" display featuring an "OptiContrast" panel that reduces reflections and provides clearer viewing even in bright sunlight. The built-in camera's burst mode allows users to shoot an unlimited number of images at 10 frames per second at a somewhat reduced resolution of 9 megapixels. The Sony Xperia ZR will launch in various global markets from Q2 2013.

Sony HX100V, HX9V, W520

The Sony HX100V and HX9V are two new super-zoom compact cameras with Full HD video. The HX100V has a 30x optical zoom, while the HX9V has a shorter 16x lens. Both models offer 16.2 effective megapixel Exmor R sensors, full HD video at 50 progressive frames per second, GPS/Compass function, 3.0” 921,000-dot Extra Fine LCDs, 3D Sweep Panoramas and 3D Still Images. The new Intelligent Sweep Panorama HR (High Resolution) mode captures huge panoramic images with a 10480x4096 resolution, over 40million pixels. The Sony W520 features a 14.1 megapixel CCD sensor, 5x optical zoom lens with 25mm wide angle, a 2.7” LCD screen, Sweep Panorama and Intelligent AUTO. The Party-Shot IPT-DS2 is a new docking base that automatically shoots smiling, relaxed portraits of everyone in the room.

The Sony W520 will be available from March 2011. The Sony HX100V and HX9V will be available from April 2011 for about $450 and $350. UK pricing to be announced.

HM Premières New Image Compression Technology

Human Monitoring (HM) has announced the global availability of its new hipix still image compression technology. Designed to answer the market needs from cameras to web applications and mobile phones. hipix enables users to send and store high-resolution images at between 15% and 50% of the size of normal compressed JPEGs. To view hipix images, on a computer or mobile, users must initially download a viewer, and to create or convert images to the hipix format users need the hipix “Wiz” application. Both are currently free to download for a limited time. You can view a video demonstration of hipix in action after the break.
