The new Canon EOS R System, camera and RF lenses will be on display on the Canon stand exclusively at Photokina 2018.
The Canon EOS R full-frame mirrorless camera features the Worlds fastest autofocus of 0.05sec which is functional down to -6EV, a 30 megapixel full-frame sensor, touch and drag AF with 5,655 AF positions that can be selected virtually anywhere in the frame, a magnesium alloy body, 4K video recording, truly silent shooting, and an EVF with 100% coverage and 3.69 million dots.
The Canon EOS R system has now been officially announced – “This is the first chapter of a new story”. Development of an entirely new mount, plus full-frame sensor, that has been built from the ground up. A new 54mm internal diameter lens mount with short back focus allows for greater freedom for optical design, with a 12-pin data communication system.
The EOS R is made for video, offering 4K recording with full audio control, 10-bit output over HDMI, a vari-angle screen, 12 stops of dynamic range at ISO 400, and 5-axis movie IS.

The Canon EOS R full-frame mirrorless camera is scheduled to be available in October 2018 for an estimated retail price of $2299* for the body only. It will also be sold as a body-and-lens kit with the new RF 24-105mm F4 L IS USM lens for $3399*.
Canon is also introducing a new compact and lightweight Speedlite, the EL-100. Designed for photographers who are just beginning to use an external flash or are in need of a secondary unit, the new Speedlite delivers both soft and natural lighting reproduction. The EOS C700 FF is Canon's first full-frame cinema camera. At the heart of the EOS C700 FF is a new Canon-developed CMOS image sensor with a total of 5952 (H) x 3140 (V) photosites and a digital cinema 17:9 aspect ratio, which gives it the same image circle size as the full frame EOS 5D camera series. The EOS C700 FF EF and EOS C700 FF PL are scheduled to be available in July 2018 for an estimated retail price of $33,000.00.
Canon have also announced the CN-E20mm T1.5 L F, a full-manual 20mm Cinema Prime Lens for EF Mount cameras, scheduled to begin shipping in fall 2018.

Tamron today revealed a new ultra-telephoto zoom lens, 100-400mm F/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD, for full-frame Canon and Nikon DSLR cameras. The lens delivers fast and precise AF performance and 4 stops of image stabilisation (Vibration Compensation in Tamron parlance) thanks to the manufacturer'shigh-speed Dual MPU (Micro-Processing Unit) control system. The optical formula comprises 17 elements in 11 groups, includinglens elements for optimal optical design and aberration correction; and an electromagnetic diaphragm system in both the Canon and Nikon versions. The lens is compatible with Tamron's 1.4X tele converter and the Tamron TAP-in Console that enables lens customisations for focus adjustments, VC mechanism adjustments and more. Iridient Digital has released Iridient Developer 3.1.4, a raw file conversion and photo processing application for Mac OS X. This update brings support for the Canon PowerShot G9 X Mark II and EOS M6, the Fujifilm GFX 50S, X-T20, X100F. and X-A10, the Panasonic GH5 and FZ80, the Pentax KP, the Leica M10 and the Sigma sd Quattro H. The company also launched Iridient X-Transformer 1.0 beta 3 for both Mac OS and Windows, adding support for the Fujifilm GFX50S, X-T20 and X100F.
The winners of the 3rd International Landscape Photographer of the Year (ILPOTY) competition have been announced. From 2394 entries, the winner of the third International Landscape Photographer of the Year (based on a folio submission of at least 4 images) is Alex Noriega from the USA, while the winner of the third International Landscape Photograph of the Year (awarded for a single image) is a picture by Hougaard Malan, from South Africa (reprinted above), who also won the Waterfall Award. Runners-up include Kath Salier, Peter Poppe, Simone Cmoon and Eberhard Ehmke. The Black & White Award went to Guy Havell, the Dominant Sky category was won by Leonardo Papèra, the South America Award was given to Kalan Robb, while the Squarial (square aerial) Award was won by Ignacio Palacios.

Canon have announced their plans for Photokina 2016. The Japanese manufacturer's stand will feature the new Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, the full Pixma range of printers and hdbooks – a service that professionally prints and binds personalised photo books. Visitors to the stand in Hall 12 can step into an immersive world of inspiring images - at the heart of the stand is a 180° screen experience, where Canon’s new brand campaign, City Surfing, will be shown. A live seminar programme will equip people with the knowledge to capture those exciting images through different photography styles and techniques. The presenters include Canon Ambassador Thorsten Milse, as well as sports photographer Samo Vidic. “Canon’s aim is to inspire and enable photographers to capture, store, print and share their lives through the universal language of imagery,” said Alessandro Stanzani, Executive Vice President of Consumer and Professional Imaging, Canon Europe. “At Photokina, we’re excited to be showcasing our smart imaging products and hope to inspire photographers in their pursuit of the shot.”

Filmmaker Anna Akana and Canon U.S.A. together announced that Akana will become the latest personality featured in the Rebel With A Cause initiative, which celebrates 25 years since the introduction of Canon’s first EOS Rebel film SLR camera. Following in the footsteps of American daredevil Nik Wallenda and Grammy Award winning record producer Swizz Beatz, Akana, a strong proponent of anti-bullying and suicide prevention, will be featured in a video dedicated to her own unique cause, debuting in September. Canon will conclude the year-long “Rebel With A Cause” programme in October with a consumer Rebel, whose cause will be chosen from the recently closed contest searching for the next great inspiration. Iridient Digital has released Iridient Developer 3.0.6 for Mac OS X. This update adds support for the Canon EOS M10, PowerShot G5 X and PowerShot G9 X, the Sony DSC-RX1R II and the Leica SL (Typ 601) cameras. Additionally, this release fixes several bugs including a crash on load with some DNG images converted automatically on import by recent versions of Adobe Lightroom, an issue with clipped highlight handling for some DNG images that use gain map opcodes and sporadic issues with serial number validation. This update is free for all previously registered users who purchased a new or upgraded license after 14 April 2013.
Metabones have released a firmware update for their EF-mount Speed Boosters and Smart Adapters. Version 1.8 adds support for the on-sensor phase-detect auto-focus (PDAF) function of the Olympus OM-D E-M1 and Sony Alpha 7R II compact system cameras. The Canon EF 35mm F/1.4L II USM is a new moderate wide-angle lens for 35mm full-frame SLR cameras. This is the world’s first lens to boast the company's exclusive Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics technology, which utilises organic material newly developed by Canon to achieve a higher level of chromatic aberration correction than other existing technologies. The molecular design of BR Optics refracts blue light to a greater degree than other existing optical technologies including UD glass, Super UD glass and Fluorite, to control colour fringing as effectively as possible.In addition to BR Optics, the new lens incorporates two aspherical elements and one UD glass element in a 14 element, 11 group optical formula. Canon have announced the upcoming US launch of their EOS M3 compact system camera. The company's third CSC has an 24.2 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, DIGIC 6 processor, a touch-screen interface, Hybrid CMOS AF III and 49-point AF System, Full 1080p HD Movie mode, ISO 100-12800, a 3-inch 1,040,000-dot LCD monitor that tilts up 180 degrees and down 45 degrees, integrated Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity, 4.2fps burst shooting, 14-bit RAW support, built-in pop-up flash and a flash hot-shoe. The Canon EOS M3 will go on sale in the US in early October for an estimated retail price of $679.99. An EOS M3 EF-M 18-55mm IS STM lens kit will be available in the customer’s choice of black or white for an estimated retail price of $799.99. Additionally, a two-lens kit featuring the EOS M3 digital camera with the EF-M 18-55mm IS STM lens and the EF-M 55-200mm IS STM lens will be on sale for an estimated retail price of $1,049.00.
Canon, today introduced their first multi-purpose camera, the new ME20F-SH, which delivers an ISO sensitivity of over 4,000,000. This multi-purpose camera employs an enhanced version of the 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor for Full HD video use that was originally developed by Canon in 2013. It has a pixel pitch of 19μm, and each of its sensor photosites has a surface area of 361 μm2, which is much higher than the corresponding values of the Canon EOS-1D X (6.94 μm and 48.16 μm2, respectively). Furthermore, similar to Canon’s Cinema EOS System of professional digital cinematography cameras, the ME20F-SH includes Canon Log and Wide DR. The camera employs the same EF mount (Cinema Lock type) as Canon’s SLR cameras and Cinema EOS System-series of professional digital cameras, allowing users to make use of the company's extensive lineup of interchangeable lenses. The Canon ME20F-SH is expected to be available in December 2015 at a suggested retail price of $30,000.
DxO have released DxO OpticsPro 10.4.2, DxO FilmPack v5.1.4, and DxO ViewPoint 2.5.6 for Mac and Windows. These updates add support for the Canon EOS 5DS and 5DS R. This super-telephoto zoom lens features Canon L-series weather resistance and rugged magnesium housing to meet the needs of wildlife and sports photographers or photojournalists working out in the elements. The year 2014 marks the 25th anniversary of Canon's EOS-1 series. Iridient Digital has released Iridient Developer 2.4, a major update to its critically acclaimed raw converter and image editor for Mac OS X. This update includes a number of new features to provide better integration with other photo management tools, in particular Lightroom and Aperture. New features include 'Find and Open raw' for doing a local search for the raw source of a standard image, the ability to overwrite standard images in place and support for automatically opening the raw source image when sent a standard image for external editing. Kenko Tokina USA has announced the availability of the Tokina AT-X 11-16mm f/2.8 Type-II lens for Sony's A-mount cameras with APS-C sized sensors. This compact ultra-wideangle zoom, which features 13 elements in 11 groups and a 9-bladed iris diaphragm, will go on sale in January 2014. The main features include an angle-of-view range of 104° to 82°, a minimum focus distance of 30cm, a maximum reproduction ratio of 1:11.6, and a one-clutch focus mechanism that allows the photographer to switch between AF and MF simply by snapping the focus ring forward for AF and back toward the lens mount for manual focusing.

Brian Griffith has released Version 2.1.1 of Iridient Developer, his critically acclaimed image processing software for Mac OS X. This release features all-new, native demosaic processing for the Fuji X-Trans (X-Pro1, X-E1, X100S and X20) cameras, in addition to the existing support for these cameras using either Apple's RAW libraries or Adobe DNG (linear) format conversion. DxO Labs today released Version 8.2 of DxO Optics Pro. This update for Mac and Windows allows DxO Optics Pro 8 to support the Canon EOS Rebel SL1, the Sony SLT-A58 (pictured), and the Ricoh GR, as well as to incorporate all of the new features of DxO FilmPack 4 as a plugin. Akvis has released version 3.0 of Akvis Refocus, a program that improves the sharpness of out-of-focus images. This update offers brand new image processing modes and allows users to actually add lens blur and bokeh effects to their photos. The program now runs in three modes, refocus, miniature and iris blur. The refocus mode is the same as before, making blurred photos sharp and clear (within limits, of course). The miniature mode - which Akvis calls “Tilt-Shift” even though it cannot emulate everything you can achieve with a real tilt-shift lens - leaves a sharp strip in the image while adding gradual blur at the edges, giving objects in the photo a miniature/toy look. Finally, the Iris Blur mode creates a shallow depth-of-field effect, blurring the background while keeping the subject in focus. Registered users of Refocus can upgrade to version 3.0 free of charge.

Canon announced today the first photography-inspired film festival in history. Eva Longoria, Jamie Foxx, Biz Stone, Georgina Chapman and James Murphy will direct short films under the tutelage of two-time Academy Award winner Ron Howard. The “10” in “Imaginat10n,” represents ten storytelling elements and ten films that will ultimately be produced, five of which will be directed by our creative icons to be showcased at a special Canon “Project Imaginat10n” Film Festival in 2013. The other five film directors will be announced at a later date.

Canon has announced the upcoming release of a major firmware update to its EOS 7D digital SLR camera. Version 2 adds “powerful memory management algorithms” that allow the camera’s buffer to accommodate up to 25 raw files or 130 JPEGs. Additionally, a range of newly-added editing functions gives photographers more control over how images look, allowing post-production to begin in-camera. The firmware update also offers improved audio functionality in movie mode, a digital wind-cut filter, expanded user control over the camera’s auto ISO feature, as well as added capacity for users to track the location of their still images with new support for the GPS Receiver GP-E2. Firmware v2 will roll out from August 2012.

Canon USA has announced the Canon Pixma MX892 Wireless All-In-One (AIO) printer. This print, copy, scan and fax machine has a variety of connectivity options for easy printing of documents and images from the cloud and other compatible portable devices. For those registered with Google’s PicasaWeb Albums, there is Pixma Cloud Link so users can print photos directly from their online albums. The printer also provides direct access to a wide range of printable templates, such as stationary and calendars, so photographers can get creative with their images, the company says. Additionally, the Canon Pixma MX892 Wireless Office AIO printer will also have 802.11n wireless capability allowing for a high-speed network transfer rate and easy sharing on a network. The will have an estimated selling price of $199.99.
Canon U.S.A, has added three new all-in-one printer/copier/scanner devices to its Pixma range. The Canon Pixma MX512 ($149.99, pictured) and Pixma MX432 ($99.99) feature 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity with AirPrint support, and printing speeds of approximately 9.7 ipm for black-and-white documents and approximately 5.5 ipm for colour. The Pixma MX512 additionally features a Dual Function Panel for easy navigation through menus, an Ethernet port for increased connectivity and a 2.5-inch TFT screen for easy viewing of menus and images. The Canon Pixma MX372 Office AIO printer, which comes without Wi-Fi functionality, provides output at approximately 8.7 ipm for black-and-white documents and approximately 5.0 ipm for colour. The Canon EOS-1D X is a new professional digital SLR camera with a full-frame 18-megapixel sensor, a continuous shooting speed of 14 frames per second (12fps with AF) and a new 61-point AF system. Also featuring dual DIGIC 5+ image processors and 14-bit analogue-to-digital signal conversion, the Canon EOS-1D X offers a sensitivity range of ISO 100-51,200, expandable to ISO 204,800. At Canon EXPO 2010 New York, Canon has showcased a range of future technologies including a working prototype for a multipurpose digital camera that supports both video and still image capture with ultra-high definition 4K resolution. 4K is a collective name for several new standards of digital video capture, including Full Aperture 4K (4096x3112 pixels), Academy 4K (3656x2664 pixels), and Digital Cinema 4K (itself coming in different flavours such as 4096×1714 and 3996x2160 pixels). Given that Canon’s new prototype has a 2/3”, 8-megapixel CMOS sensor, we assume it shoots one version of Digital Cinema 4K, as both Full Aperture 4K and Academy 4K require more than 8 million pixels. The camera shoots video at 60 frames per second, and comes equipped with a large 4K LCD screen. Speaking of which, Canon is also exhibiting LCD panels with up to 8K resolution as part of their future technology showcase at the expo.

Canon has announced an update for its EOS Movie Plug-in for Final Cut Pro. Scheduled to be available for download from mid-September, Canon’s EOS Movie Plug-in E1 for Final Cut Pro version 1.1 adds support for the Canon EOS 60D digital SLR camera. The plug-in will allow users to view metadata and EXIF data for movie files. It will also provide support for multi-core processing, allowing even faster conversations with the latest generation of Macs.
Canon U.S.A. has unveiled five new Canon Pixma printers sporting a ‘Full HD Movie Print’ feature that lets users print out individual frames from HD movies as still photographs. In addition to this, these new models - including the Canon Pixma MG5220 ($149.99, pictured) and Pixma MP495 ($79.99) Wireless Photo All-in-One printers, the Pixma MG5120 ($129.99) and Pixma MP280 ($69.99) Photo All-in-One printers and the Pixma iP4820 ($99.99) inkjet printer - will feature improvements to Auto Photo Fix II, while Easy-PhotoPrint EX software now allows users to search and use images from Flickr. The Sigma APO 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM full-frame telezoom lens is now available in Japan. Constructed of 22 elements in 17 groups, the lens has a filter thread size of 77mm and has an iris diaphragm with 9 rounded blades for a smooth bokeh. The Sigma APO 70-200 F2.8 EX DG OS HSM is a new fast telephoto lens. Equipped with optical stabilisation, the Sigma 70-200mm has a large maximum aperture of F2.8 throughout the entire zoom range. Canon has launched “The Story Beyond The Still Contest,” allowing photographers and videographers to showcase their creativity in a new style of filmmaking that blends still and video images into a continuous cinematic piece. The contest, sponsored by Canon and hosted by Vimeo, the online video sharing site hosting one of the largest collections of HD content on the Web, invites participants to use the HD video capability of their camera to create short, two to four minute videos. To kick off the contest, Vincent Laforet collaborated with Grey New York to bring his interpretation of a still image to life in a short film entitled “The Cabbie,” which serves as the first installment of a seven chapter collaborative work in which each participant will be asked to interpret the previous winning photographer/filmmaker’s final still image to start their vision for the subsequent chapter. Phase One has released Capture One 4.7, an update to its popular Capture One program. The update adds a new file format for Phase One raw files. The Enhanced Image Package (.eip file extension) permits packaging of a Phase One RAW image file together with the adjustment settings applied to the raw file, with no changes to the original raw file or re-arrangement of settings. Also, Capture One 4.7 now accepts TIFF and JPEG as input file formats, making it possible to use all image editing tools - except lens correction - on them. Finally, the Capture One 4.7 DB and 4.7 PRO also support tethered shooting with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II and the Nikon D3X digital SLRs.
Capture One 4.7 is a free service release to existing Capture One 4.x owners.
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 1.4 and Camera Raw 4.4 are now available immediately as free upgrades for existing users. PMA 2007: The Canon EOS-1D Mark III DSLR camera is the latest addition to the EOS-1D series, offering 10.1 megapixels and 10fps shooting for up to 110 JPEG or 30 RAW images. The Canon 1D Mark III has not one but two DIGIC III processors, 14-bit image processing, 3.0 inch LCD with Live View mode (eat your heart out Olympus!), ISO 6400, 19 point auto-focusing and the EOS Integrated Cleaning System. The new Canon EOS-1D Mark III will cost £3049.99 in the UK, and I hear that it will cost $3999 in the US and be available in April.

Canon has extended its rebate program until February 19th. The PMA Show 2005 was held last week in Orlando, Florida. PhotographyBLOG was there for an entire week to cover the show, attend various press events and go on the rides at the Universal Studios “Islands of Adventure” theme park (I can’t work all the time you know…). All in all the Show was a quiet, understated affair compared to previous years, with the general concensus being this was a year of consolidation in the industry, rather than innovation. There were still a lot of new products introduced, however, so here is my personal roundup of the hits, misses and maybes.
The Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT is undoubtedly the star of PMA 2005 show (called the Canon EOS 350D in Europe). An 8 megapixel digital SLR with the same DIGIC II image processor found in Canon’s professional series D-SLR cameras, the Digital Rebel XT is an amazing upgrade of the already very popular Canon Digital Rebel. Build-quality is better than you may imaging, certainly a lot better than the original Rebel, but not as good as the higher-end EOS 20D. The Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT also even smaller than the previous model, although not to small for my large hand size. The popularity of the Digital Rebel XT at PMA and also after the show will no doubt be helped by the lack of any new comparative DLSR from Nikon, whose stand here is noticeably smaller than Canon’s. The Canon EOS 350D will cost £750 when it launches in the UK in March.

Photo.net have today published an interesting overview of the new EF-S lenses that were announced by Canon at the end of last week, courtesy of Bob Atkins.
“I was a little disappointed that the EF-S 10-22/3.5-5.6 USM was so expensive. I’d hoped that maybe Canon could have made a lens like this for $300 or so, but I guess it’s not easy making a lens of such a short focal length, and a 2.2x zoom at that. Canon seem to have gone for the “upscale” market with this lens, rather than the “low end” market at which the original EF-S 18-55 was targeted. Personally I’d have taken a small hit in performance for a large drop in price - but that’s just me! At $800, if you buy one you have to hope that Canon will stick with the 1.6x sensor size for a while, since this lens isn’t going to fit on any film body, or even any of the “pro” EOS 1 digital models.”

DPReview have reported that Canon have made Digital Photo Professional V1.0 available for download for Canon EOS-1D and EOS-1Ds owners. This is a new image management and RAW conversion utility that originally shipped with the EOS-1D Mk II. Highest Resolution, Broadest ISO Performance in a Digital SLR
HANNOVER, Germany, March 18 - Providing professional photographers with a choice of lens mounts on its new digital SLR cameras, Eastman Kodak Company today introduced the KODAK PROFESSIONAL DCS Pro SLR/c - a digital camera compatible with the popular CANON EOS lens mount. It offers the same superior resolution, broad ISO performance and extended burst depth found in the acclaimed KODAK PROFESSIONAL DCS Pro SLR/n digital camera built on a NIKON F-mount and introduced in February, 2004.
The DCS Pro SLR/c digital camera contains a high-performance imaging system and full size 35mm size CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) sensor, boasts 14 million pixels with a total available ISO range of 6 to 1600 and offers variable resolution raw files. The camera delivers the highest resolution of any digital SLR with an ISO range that meets the needs of a wide variety of professional photographers, including wedding, portrait, event, commercial and advanced amateur photographers. Aside from the EOS lens mount, the DCS SLR/c camera also includes an infrared (IR) remote for shutter release, a flash sync of 1/180 th of a second with a Focal Plane (FP) flash mode up to 1/6000 th of a second when using an EX - series Speedlite, and an overall shutter speed range from 1/6000 th to 30 seconds. Canon’s “EOS Digital Rebel/EOS Kiss/EOS 300D” digital SLR has sold so well that Canon have recently raised production by 25%, according to a report on Yahoo! News via Reuters:
“Ando said Canon had completed plans to boost monthly production capacity of the “EOS Kiss” by about 25 percent to 100,000 cameras in the first quarter of this year. Half of that capacity is housed in a Taiwan plant and the other half in Japan.
Canon sold 600,000 digital SLRs in 2003, capturing 70 percent of the rapidly growing market and leaving Nikon Corp (7731.T), which did not have a camera anywhere near the “EOS Kiss” model’s price range, in second place with 30 percent.”
Even more interestingly, Canon spokesman Tadaaki Ando, deputy group executive in charge of digital SLRs, strongly hinted that an even cheaper DSLR will be released in about a year’s time:
“Canon’s Ando said a lower-priced digital SLR could be about one year away.
“If it’s not this autumn, then that would probably mean next spring,” Ando said, noting the release would then be one-and-a-half years after the original “EOS Kiss.” “Development times are so much faster than they were in the film age.”

Canon releases new range, celebrates 30 IXUS models
Amstelveen, The Netherlands, 9 February, 2004. Canon, a leader in photographic and imaging technology, today announces the release of three new Digital IXUS cameras. This takes to a total of 30 the number of IXUS models released since 1996.
The range release includes a new flagship of the Digital IXUS fleet, the 5.0 Megapixel Digital IXUS 500. The 4.0 Megapixel Digital IXUS 430 replaces the previous top of the line Digital IXUS 400, while the 3.2 Megapixel Digital IXUS IIs takes over from the popular Digital IXUS II.
Launched to popular and critical acclaim in May 1996, the original stainless steel IXUS APS camera triggered an avalanche success. Canon has stuck with IXUS ever since, never straying from the IXUS philosophy of simplicity and beauty that feels great in the hands. Designed to work with the EOS-1Ds and new EOS-1D Mark II D-SLR cameras, the DVK-E2 provides the facility to prove that images taken with the EOS-1D Mark II have not been altered, tampered with or manipulated in any way. The DVK-E2 is the successor to Canon’s DVK-E1 and will work with both the EOS-1Ds and the EOS-1D Mark II.
Recent well-publicised cases involving image-tampering by news agencies have identified a strong need for a system capable of verifying the originality of digital photographs. Without such a kit it is impossible for an agency to identify whether or not a given image has been enhanced or manipulated.
ISO certification
With the capacity to detect the slightest (single bit) discrepancy, the DVK-E2 kit is expected to be popular amongst law enforcement, insurance, news and other agencies that have a need to verify the legitimacy of digital images. Canon is applying for ISO 15408 certification (evaluation criteria for IT security) for the Data Verification Kit to further validate its application. The acquisition of ISO 15408 certification will give international recognition to the originality of images shot with the EOS-1D Mark II or EOS-1Ds whilst in data verification mode.
How it works
The kit consists of a dedicated SM (secure mobile) card reader/writer and verification software. When the appropriate function (Personal Function 31) on the EOS-1D Mark II or EOS-1Ds is activated, a code based on the image contents is generated and appended to the image. When the image is viewed, the data verification software determines the code for the image and compares it with the attached code. If the image contents have been manipulated in any way, the codes will not match and the image cannot be verified as the original.
Compact and easy to use
The SM cards used with the kit are the same size as an SD card. The tiny SM card reader/writer is barely bigger than the cards it takes. It draws the power it requires from the USB port of the computer to which it is connected. The software is Windows 2000/XP compatible. Up to 100 images can be evaluated simultaneously, simply by selecting the images and clicking ‘Verify’.
The kit supports English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese and Chinese languages.
The price of the 5 megapixel Minolta DiMAGE A1 digital camera has been drastically reduced by some retailers in the UK and USA. The UK photography website digitalfirst.co.uk is now selling the A1, which improves upon the DiMAGE 7 series of digital cameras, for ?638.49 including VAT - that’s over ?150 less than the camera was originally selling for when it was launched a few weeks ago. The A1 has also had its price slashed by $200 in the USA. The Canon EOS 300D has a lot to answer for!

Sony Japan have just released the first ever sample images from the new DSC-F828 8-megapixel digital camera, due to ship sometime in November. There are 2 ISO 100 images for you to take a look at and evaluate, with full-sized originals available. Unfortunately for Sony, both shots look very noisy for ISO 100, especially when compared with a digital SLR like the Canon EOS 300D. It seems as though they may have crammed too many megapixels into too small a sensor…

Ian at DP-Now has reviewed the new version of the Vosonic X’s Drive. I’ll leave it to Ian to explain what an X’s Drive actually is:
“An X?s Drive is a portable repository into which you can dump photos from your camera?s memory cards for later retrieval via a USB cable connection to a host computer. Why would you want one? Rather than buy lots of memory cards you can empty your cards into the X?s Drive as you go. The X?s Drive family is based around a battery-powered portable hard drive unit. The hard drive itself is the same specification as that used by most notebook computers: a 9.5mm high 2.5 inch drive. In fact, you can buy an X?s Drive unit without a hard drive and fit your own, if you wish.”
I’ve just bought the original version of the X’s Drive with a 20Gb hard-drive, which has enough space for about 3000 Canon EOS 10D RAW files. So far I’ve encountered no problems and can recommend it as an affordable way to store large numbers of digital camera files.
