Sigma 16mm, 30mm and 56mm F1.4 DC DN C for Canon Review

It's rather an understatement to say that Canon have been less than supportive of their APS-C sensor, EF-M mount camera range. With just 8 native lenses released since the system was launched 8 years ago, there's been very little opportunity to progress beyond the slow zoom lenses that have dominated the line-up, unless you've been prepared to adapt a DSLR lens. All of that has changed, though, with Sigma's recent introduction of three ultra-bright yet affordable F1.4 prime lenses, providing a much-needed boost for EOS M owners. Read our Sigma 16mm, 30mm and 56mm F1.4 DC DN C for Canon Review to find out if they're the shot in the arm that Canon's neglected system needs (the short answer is yes)...

It weighs in at just 880g combined with the EOS RP camera with battery and memory card fitted, making it an ideal entry-level kit choice.

The Canon RF 24-105mm F4-7.1 IS STM will be available from April priced at £459.99 / €549.99.

Although the Canon EOS Digital Rebel T1i/500D comes with a manual, Long explains why you might need this book to get the most out of your camera. “Knowing what each button on your camera does won’t necessarily mean you can shoot great pictures. Personally, I know the basic concept of a paintbrush, but I can’t paint a decent painting to save my life. To use a creative tool well, you must understand both the technique and the craft of the tool, as well as have some sense of artistry when you use it.” The book sells for $24.99 USD, £18.99 GBP, but it is also available as an ebook for just $19.99 USD.

Gary's Parries 30/07/06

Gary's ParriesThis week’s Gary’s Parries topics are:

1. It Was So Cold, Even My LX1 Had No Noise
2. Canon PowerShot S90 Rumors

Introducing this week’s Gary’s Parries column. Everything you always wanted to know about digital cameras, but were afraid to ask. No question too difficult, or too easy. As a Senior Principal Software Engineer, and a former Assistant Professor of Computer Information Systems, as well as a recording studio owner/operator, inventor, and now, a digital camera enthusiast, GARY has more digital camera knowledge in his entire brain than most people have in their little finger. In the unlikely event that GARY would not know the answer to your question, he will answer it anyway, true to the spirit of the word “Parries”, a fencing term which, in this context, implies “cleverly evasive answers”. So let your imagination run wild. Email all your nagging digital camera questions to: [email protected] , and then, En Garde!

You may also attach to your email an ORIGINAL PHOTO of your choosing. A preview of the photo will be displayed with your question, and a full-sized version will be just a click away. No personal information will be published with your question unless you specifically include it in the text or attached photo of your email, which may be further edited for grammar, content, or other reasons.

Lensbaby Distributed by Intro 2020 in UK

LensbabyIntro 2020 Ltd Press Release

Intro 2020 Ltd is the official UK importer and distributor of the Lensbaby.

“The beauty of these lenses is in their calculated imperfection,” said Lensbabies founder and professional photographer Craig Strong.  Strong invented the Lensbaby in an effort to create a digital equivalent to his Holga camera.

The Original Lensbaby combines several vintage camera technologies into a novel, patent-pending combination.  The shooter focuses a Lensbaby using the same general principle used with a bellows camera – by moving the focusing collar in and out with the fingertips.  The photographer moves the ‘sweet spot’ of focus around the picture plane by bending the glass optic out of a parallel position to the image capture plane, like a tilt-shift lens.  Finally, reminiscent of Waterhouse stops, the photographer swaps apertures by removing one aperture ring and replacing it with another.

Olympus E-300 and Pentax *ist DS Go head-to-Head

Olympus E-300The competitively priced 8 megapixel Olympus E-300/Evolt DSLR (pictured) is a great alternative to the Nikon D70 and Canon EOS 300D, and the Pentax * ist DS will please everyone who owns a cupboard full of Pentax lenses (both new and old). PCWorld have compared these two new DSLR cameras in a head-to-head test:

“The Olympus is easily the more eye-catching of the two. There’s no hump on the top of the camera—the signature mark of all SLRs for the past 45 years. Olympus moved the viewfinder’s optical path to the left side of the body, which makes the camera slightly shorter than most other digital SLRs. Though it isn’t a significant savings in size, the flat-top design does seem to slide in and out of an overstuffed camera bag more easily. Our shipping Olympus has a polished look and feel. Its solid, bricklike body feels as if you could pound nails with it. The dials turn smoothly and easily, and the body fits firmly in two hands.”
