Fujifilm X-H1 Size Comparison - Too Big or Just Right?

One of the main criticisms that we've seen aimed at the Fujifilm X-H1 since its launch last week is about its size, with lots of online comments that it's just too big for a mirrorless camera.

To that end, we've gathered a number of different cameras from the far-flung corners of the Photography Blog office, lined them up one-by-one next to the X-H1, and shot each combination from various angles to give you an idea of how they compare in real life.

The cameras are: Fujifilm X-T2, Fujifilm GFX, Panasonic GH5S, Sony A7R II, Sony A6500, Canon EOS 5DSR, Canon EOS 5D Mark III and the Canon EOS 80D.

Remember, this isn't meant to be a scientific test of the X-H1 - we don't have obvious rivals like the the Olympus O-MD E-M1 II to hand - but it does give you an idea of how it compares to cameras from most of the various systems available today (APS-C mirroless, Medium Format, Micro Four Thirds, 35mm Full-frame mirrorless, 35mm Full-frame DSLR, APS-C DSLR).

Take a look and let us know what you think in the comments section - is the Fujifilm X-H1 too big for its boots, or is its size irrelevant?

Finally, Canon have announced a new firmware update for the EOS-1D X Mark II. Adding IPTC support and LCD colour tone as featured in the EOS 5D Mark IV, the update also improves the network and GPS functionality. The firmware will be available in September.

Canon has released a firmware update for its EOS 5D Mark III full-frame digital SLR camera. Click through / scroll down for a list of improvements and fixes implemented in Version 1.2.3.

Sony A7 v Olympus OM-D E-M1 v Canon EOS 5D Mk III

We've directly compared the new Sony A7 full-frame compact system camera with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 and the Canon EOS 5D Mark III.

As you'll see in the gallery, the Sony A7 is much smaller than Canon's full-frame DSLR, as you'd expect, but it's actually about the same size as Olympus' new mirrorless offering, which uses a comparatively tiny Micro Four Thirds sensor!

Obviously you then have to factor in the lenses, which are bigger on Sony's new FE full-frame system, but it's clear to see that Sony have put a lot of effort into making their new A7/A7R bodies as petitie as possible

DxOMark Introduces "Perceptual Megapixel" Score

DxO Labs have launched a new measure of lens sharpness, dubbed “Perceptual Megapixel,” on their DxOMark website. Designed by DxOMark experts, Perceptual Megapixel attempts to quantify the sharpness “perceived” by the photographer while taking into account all the characteristics and defects of the lens and the camera. “This new unit of measure replaces the MTF scores that we have been publishing up until now. Perceptual Mpix weights MTF measurements with the sensitivity to detail of the human visual system, thus providing a score for the sharpness perceived by our eyes. Leica M Adapter for Fujifilm X-Pro 1

Fujifilm have confirmed that they will release a Leica M adapter for the new X-Pro 1. Speaking to journalists at an exclusive briefing, Fujifilm stated that the adapter will not be launched at next month’s CP+ photography show in Japan, but will be released by April this year. Leica lens owners looking for an alternative to the M9 should form an orderly queue…

Fujifilm have come up with a brand new category name for the X-Pro1 - “premium interchangeable lens camera” - which is claimed to be very different to a “conventional mirrorless camera”, hence the new name.

We also had a closer look at the new Fujifilm EF-X20 flash, which has a guide number of 20, and an additional grip that’s designed for people with larger hands. Pricing for both optional accessories is still to be confirmed.

Finally, some very interesting A3 prints were on display comparing the high ISO output of the X-Pro1 alongside the Canon EOS 5D Mark II and the Sony A77, with significantly less noise and more detail visible from the X-Pro1 at ISO 1600 and faster, going some way to verifying Fujifilm’s claims that their new sensor produces more resolution with less artefacts than either APS-C or full-frame cameras.

Canon has announced that the company is developing a new-concept EOS-series digital SLR camera equipped with a 35 mm full-frame CMOS sensor that will also be able to record 4K video. 4K is a relatively new resolution standard for digital cinematography, whose name comes from its approximately 4000 pixels of horizontal resolution (by comparison, Full HD delivers “only” 1920 pixels in the horizontal dimension). Further details regarding the new EOS digital SLR camera currently under development, including the product name, specifications and scheduled launch date, have yet to be decided.

Canon Develops Ultra-Large-Scale, Ultra-High-Sensitivity CMOS Sensor

Canon has announced that an ultra-large-scale, ultra-high-sensitivity CMOS sensor developed by the company has enabled the video recording of meteors with an equivalent apparent magnitude of 10. Apparent magnitude is a measure of a celestial body’s brightness as seen by an observer on Earth. A star (or meteor) whose apparent magnitude is 10 is absolutely invisible to the naked eye. The sensor, with a chip size measuring 202 x 205 mm - the world’s largest surface area for a CMOS sensor - was installed in the Schmidt telescope at the University of Tokyo’s Kiso Observatory, Institute of Astronomy, School of Science. The photo above shows just how big this sensor is compared to a 35mm full-frame imager.

DSLR Controller for Android

Chainfire has released an app that allows you to remotely control your Canon EOS digital SLR camera via USB using a smartphone or tablet running Android 2.3.4 or later. Currently in Beta, the DSLR Controller app does not require you to hook the camera up to a computer - all you need is a compatible DSLR (the app has been tested with the Canon EOS 600D, 550D, 60D, 50D, 7D, 5D Mark II and 1D Mark IV models), a compatible smartphone* or tablet and the right USB cable. Features include the display of the Live View feed with histogram, grid overlay etc., LV autofocus by touch, and the ability to remotely change a large number of settings on your camera. As this is a Beta version, you should expect intermittent freeze-ups and error messages, the developers say. The DSLR Controller Beta app can be purchased and downloaded now from the Android Market.

*Note that apparently the only compatible smartphone is the Samsung Galaxy S2, with the 2.3.4 KG series firmware (or newer). The app should work with most Honeycomb-powered tablets though, Chainfire says.

Canon 5D Mark II Used to Capture Action Sequences in New Feature Film

Canon has announced that a number of action sequences in the highly anticipated feature film, Captain America: The First Avenger were captured with its EOS 5D Mark II digital SLR camera. Action scenes shot with the DSLR include a car chase and crash, and a high-speed motorcycle pursuit. The comparatively small size of the camera enabled the crew to mount it on the interiors and exteriors of moving vehicles to capture dramatic action shots. The camera’s size also ensured that it was “invisible” to the film cameras shooting the same scene from a distance. Previously, the Canon EOS 5D Mark II cameras and EF lenses were used for action shots in the blockbuster hit “Iron Man 2”.

Emmy-Winning Director Uses Canon HDSLRs to Shoot Commercials

East Pleasant Pictures, a global collective specialising in multiple forms of moving-image media, has shot a series of commercials for a major cruise ship line using Canon EOS 5D Mark II and 1D Mark IV HDSLR cameras. Directed by Emmy-winning producer/director Xander Strohm, the commercials featured candid scenes of cruise ship passengers playing dodgeball and engaging in other recreational activities. Co-director Damien Drake explained: “We did a lot of documentary work for high-profile people and needed to be as inconspicuous as possible. We couldn’t use a crew, and we had to be our own technicians. The DSLR cameras stood out because they provide super high-quality HD and are very unobtrusive. In fact, a lot of the time people didn’t even realise that we were shooting video.” Both the Canon EOS 5D Mark II and 1D Mark IV digital SLR cameras provide full 1920x1080-pixel HD video recording at user-selectable frame rates of 30 (29.97), 24 (23.976), and 25 fps.

Canon 5D Mark II Used to Shoot "Iron Man 2"

Canon has announced that its EOS 5D Mark II DSLR cameras were used for capturing crucial images in a key action sequence in Iron Man 2. The scene in question is the one in which the titular character’s alter ego Tony Stark drives a race car in the Historic Monaco Grand Prix and is attacked by super-villain Ivan Vanko. The Canon digital SLR cameras were used to capture moving background plates on location in the famous European principality and to provide crash-cam footage amid the scene’s high-speed auto race. “The new manual exposure firmware introduced during the shoot enabled us to expose 5D Mark II imagery more similarly to the film we were shooting,” cinematographer Matthew Libatique noted. “That was the sealer for us. Once that manual firmware was installed we knew that we were going to be using the 5D Mark II.”

Canon Builds World's Largest CMOS Imager

Canon has successfully developed the world’s largest CMOS image sensor, with a chip size measuring a whopping 202x205mm. This is approximately 40 times the size of Canon’s largest commercial CMOS sensors. Despite its size, which in the past would have meant slow signal readout speeds, the massive sensor meets the requirements of video capture. Thanks to its improved circuitry and exceptional light sensitivity, the new CMOS imager can be used to record video at 60 frames per second at a mere 0.3lux of illumination. Potential applications include the video recording of stars in the night sky and nocturnal animal behaviour.

Canon EOS 60D

The 18-megapixel Canon EOS 60D is a replacement for the 50D featuring a vari-angle LCD screen and Full HD video capture with full manual control including a variety of user-selectable frame rates. The Canon 60D can shoot 18-megapixel stills at up to 5.3 frames per second for up to 58 frames in a row (in JPEG format). Boasting a 9-point, all cross-type autofocus AF system, the EOS 60D also features Canon’s iFCL metering system, first introduced with the EOS 7D, with a 63-zone Dual-Layer sensor. An Integrated Speedlite Transmitter provides in-camera control of multiple EX flash units for more creative lighting. The new 3-inch LCD monitor has a 3:2 aspect ratio, a 1,040k dot resolution and full articulation for overhead shots or ground-level photography. The Canon EOS 60D’s standard ISO range of 100-6400 is extendable to 12800. The EOS 60D is available from October priced at £1099.99 / €1309.99 / $1,099.00 for the body only. It will also be sold in four different kits ranging from £1199.99 to £1999.99 depending on the bundled lens.

Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM

Canon has launched the Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM, a zooming fisheye lens offering both circular and full frame images. A zoom-lock mechanism on the lens body allows the range to be limited to the focal length that ensures the best possible full-frame view without unsightly vignetting around the edge. ‘C’ and ‘H’ markings can be found next to the zoom operation ring, indicating the wide-angle zoom position where vignette-free shooting is possible with APS-C and APS-H sensors, respectively. Constructed of 14 elements arranged in 11 groups, the Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM features Canon’s Super Spectra Coating on every lens element. The inner surface of the front element also features Canon’s SubWavelength Structure Coating (SWC), which uses tiny cone-like structures, shorter than the wavelength of visible light on the surface of the lens element, to gradually slow light down until it is at the same speed as it travels through glass, removing the risk of flare occurring before the light reaches the sensor. A ring-type ultrasonic motor provides quick and accurate focusing when shooting and enables a full-time manual focus functionality. The Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM is available from January 2011 priced at £1499.99 / €1789.99 / $1400.00.

120 Megapixel Canon CMOS Sensor

Canon have developed a new 120 megapixel CMOS sensor that can shoot at 9.5fps and record Full HD movies. Nearly 7.5 times larger and offering a 2.4-fold improvement in resolution when compared with Canon’s highest-resolution commercial CMOS sensor of the same size, the 120 megapixel APS-H-size sensor has 13,280 x 9,184 pixels. The imaging area of the newly developed sensor measures approx. 29.2 x 20.2 mm. No word yet on exactly what Canon intend to use the new sensor for…

Novoflex Adapter Enables Use of Nikon Lenses on Canon Bodies

A new adapter from German accessories manufacturer Novoflex enables aperture control, stop-down metering and aperture-priority shooting with G series Nikon lenses on Canon EOS SLR bodies. According to Cameratown, the secret to this is a lever on the side of the adapter, which allows the user to control the aperture on G series lenses that lack an aperture ring. This is not the first Canon-to-Nikon mount adapter out there, but the majority of older models would only allow shooting with older Nikkors that do not carry the G designation. The new Novoflex adapter lets Nikon fans who have been waiting in vain for Nikon to release an affordable 20+ megapixel DSLR to buy a Canon EOS 5D Mark II and use their existing F mount lenses on it, and also allows current Canon users to purchase Nikon lenses that have no Canon equivalent - such as the 14-24mm f/2.8 ultra wide zoom pictured above - for their Canon SLR cameras. In the EU, you can order the Novoflex EOS/NIK NT adapter directly from the manufacturer for €169. In the US, Novoflex adapters are marketed by HP Marketing Corp.

Outside Magazine Demos Living Magazine Cover and Spread

Alexx Henry debuts a “Living Cover and Spread” with the October issue of Outside Magazine. The story features Chris Lieto in a pioneering moving-picture narrative of the tri-athlete. Designed with emerging technology in mind, Henry created the Living Spread as a contribution to a debate concerning the future of print, and to offer a scenario for its possible evolution. Currently, Henry’s Living Spread - created using a Canon EOS 5D Mark II and a RED camera - can only be viewed online, though not for much longer. While magazines have yet to widely implement the technology for motion photography spreads, that day appears to be imminent: display technologies such as E-ink and OLED screens continue to develop towards flexible screens that will make Henry’s imagining of a futuristic magazine possible within a few short years. A presentation of the Living version can be viewed at the website below.

Canon Posts Second Quarter Results

Canon has posted second-quarter results for 2009, which show that demand for DSLRs like the Canon EOS 5D Mark II (pictured) remains strong in an otherwise gloomy economic climate. The sales of pretty much everything else, including office equipment, laser and inkjet printers, optical equipment and compact cameras, declined versus the same period of last year. Within Canon’s product portfolio, business machines - including computer peripherals, office imaging and business information products - make up the lion’s share (61%), with cameras - including both compacts and SLRs - being a distant second (31%). As far as regions are concerned, Europe is the most important market, trailed by the Americas, Japan and other areas. Canon’s total operating profit is down 72% against the same period of last year, but the mere fact that the company is still making a profit in this era of world economic crisis is still positive news for investors.

Add Video to your DSLR

Nikon D700Want to be able to shoot video on your DSLR, but don’t have the money to buy a Nikon D90 or Canon EOS 5D Mark II? Then some enterprising programmers might have just the (completely unofficial and at your own risk) solution for you. Canon Rumors has linked to a downloadable Russian program that apparently enables video on any Canon DSLR that has Live View, whilst Olivier Giroux has captured video using the Nikon D700 (pictured). The catch? (of course there’s a catch). The camera has to be connected to a computer via the USB port, which then captures the signal from Live View mode and converts it to video. So it’s not exactly the most portable video camera in the world. Still, it is free (and as we said before, completely unofficial).

Canon EOS 5D Mark II Firmware Update 1.0.7

Canon EOS 5D Mark IICanon have released a new firmware update for the Canon EOS 5D Mark II DSLR camera. Version 1.0.7 improves and mitigates the following two types of image quality phenomena that occur under certain shooting conditions.

  1. “Black dot” phenomenon (the right side of point light sources becomes black)
When shooting night scenes, the right side of point light sources (such as lights from building windows) may become black. The phenomenon may become visible if the images are enlarged to 100% or greater on a monitor or if extremely large prints of the images are made. This firmware improves and mitigates this phenomenon.
  2. Vertical banding noise
If the recording format is set to sRAW1, vertical banding noise may become visible depending on the camera settings, subject, and background. The firmware improves and mitigates this phenomenon.

Photokina 2008 Final Thoughts

PhotokinaPhotokina is over for another 2 years, so we’ve looked back at some of the most notable developments from the World’s biggest photography show.

Leica S System
Undoubtedly the greatest surprise of this year’s Photokina was Leica’s announcement of the new S system. The German manufacturer did not simply launch a new, high-resolution camera with an assortment of lenses to go with it. They did not simply introduce a new mount either. Instead they announced a completely new camera format, something that hasn’t happened since the debut of the FourThirds system five years ago.

Leica S2

Leica S2The Leica S2 is a completely new digital SLR camera system, offering a 37 megapixel, 30x45mm sensor that’s 56% larger than full size 35mm. Designed from scratch in consultation with professional photographers, the Leica S2 does not use a conventional medium format or 35mm platform. The S2’ bespoke Kodak CCD sensor has enabled the Leica designers to produce the smallest camera in its class, sitting between the Canon EOS 5D and 1Ds Mk III DSLRs in size. The Leica “MAESTRO” image processor developed with Fujitsu specifically for the LEICA S2, allows the camera´s lenses, firmware and sensor to function at their optimum, producing market leading processing time and the highest level of picture quality with minimal energy output. Nine new lenses will be developed for the new Leica S-system.

Update 1: We have a gallery of 20 photos of the Leica S2 and assorted lenses, including an exclusive side-by-side comparison of Leica’s new DSLR with a Canon EOS 5D, and we’ve also posted our initial impressions of using the S2.

Update 2: Find out why the S2 is not called the S1, which parts of the S2 have been developed exclusively by Leica, and if the R10 will ever see the light of day - just click the continue link below…

Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Canon EOS 5D Mark IIThe 21.1 megapixel EOS 5D Mark II is Canon’s first DSLR camera to offer High Definition video capability. The new Canon 5D Mark II has a newly designed Canon CMOS sensor with ISO sensitivity up to 25600, new DIGIC 4 processor, 3.0” Clear View LCD with VGA resolution, and 3.9 frames per second continuous shooting. With a body-only price tag of $2,699 / €2,499 / £2,299, the Canon EOS 5D Mark II is available from the end of November. It will also be available in kit form with the EF 24-105mm f4.0L IS USM lens for £3049.99 / €3999.99.

Update: We now have some exclusive shots of the Canon EOS 5D Mark II from the UK press launch, including a side-by-comparison with the original 5D model that it replaces.

Canon EOS 5D v1.1.1 Firmware Update

Canon EOS 5DCanon have released a new firmware version, 1.1.1, for their 12.8 megapixel Canon EOS 5D digital SLR.

The following fixes and improvements have been incorporated:

  1. It now supports high-capacity CF cards.
Previously, when using an 8GB CF card or greater (e.g.,12GB, 16GB), even after initializing the card in the camera, the CF card capacity could not correctly be detected. This phenomenon has been fixed so that the camera will correctly recognize high-capacity CF cards.

World Press Photo of the Year 2007

World Press Photo of the Year 2007British photographer Tim Hetherington is the winner of World Press Photo of the Year 2007. His image of a US soldier, resting in a bunker in Afghanistan’s Korengal Valley, was chosen from a total of 80,536 images. This year, a record 5,019 professional photographers from 125 countries submitted images. Hetherington will receive a cash prize of €10,000 from World Press Photo at an awards ceremony in Amsterdam on 27 April. An exhibition of the prize-winning World Press Photo images will be shown from 29 April to 22 June in the Oude Kerk, Amsterdam.

Canon 200mm and 800mm Lenses

Canon 200mm f/2L IS USMCanon have unveiled two new professional EF lenses, the EF200mm f/2L IS USM and EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM. Both lenses feature a 4-stop Image Stabilizer and incorporate L-series lens optics. With its large f/2 aperture, the EF200mm f/2L IS USM will appeal to photographers who require a brighter lens for indoor sports and portraiture photography. The EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM enhances Canon’s super telephoto range with the longest focal distance of any EF lens on the market. The EF200mm f/2L IS USM will be available from April 2008 priced at £4499.99 / €6659.99. The EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM will be available from June 2008 priced at £8999.99 / €13299.99.

Canon EOS-1D Mark III Review

Canon EOS-1D Mark IIIPro photographer Lawrence Ripsher has reviewed the new Canon EOS-1D Mark III DSLR camera.

“The Canon 1D Mark III has become my new workhorse. It has all but completely replaced the Canon 5D I was previously shooting with, proving to me every time it is worth the extra weight and drop of 2 megapixels. Even though the 5D still produces superb high quality images, the 1D matches it in good light and is able to go that extra mile at high ISO settings. Likely along with the Nikon D3, it represents the best in low light shooting image quality.”

DSLR Remote Pro v1.6

Idruna LogoThe Idruna Remote Editing System (IRES) allows an editor to see what a photographer is shooting, in real time, even if the photographer is on the other side of the world. Canon EOS-1D Mark III Preview at Luminous Landscape

Canon EOS-1D Mark IIILuminous Landscape have published their first impressions of the new Canon EOS-1D Mark III DSLR camera.

“Let’s cut to the chase. In my initial evaluation I judge the MKIII to have between a one stop and two stop advantage over any Canon camera to date in terms of high ISO noise. And at the risk of starting a barroom brawl, previous Canon cameras have been as good as if not arguable better than any other manufacturer’s DSLRs when it comes to low noise at high ISO. One can also quibble as to whether the Canon 5D has been the best yet (my opinion), but there will be no argument that with the MKIII Canon has now exceeded what has come before, and has set a new benchmark for low noise.”

20th Birthday for Canon EOS System

Canon EOS 400D Review at LetsGoDigital

Canon EOS 400DDIWA member LetsGoDigital have published their review of the new Canon EOS 400D (Canon Digital Rebel XTi in the USA), which offers 10 megapixels, a large 2.5 inch LCD screen and new integrated dust removal system.

“There’s more, however. The screen on the camera’s back side has undergone a revolution. Not only is the small Canon now equipped with a large 2.5-inch LCD display, it also proves of terrific quality. In fact, it is even better than those found on the EOS 5D and the EOS 1D Mark II N; this screen is bound to spark the jealousy of many a professional DSLR owner! The value of a good monitor can simply not be underestimated, after all, you will be dealing with it all of the time. The LCD now also shows the photographic settings, which is very pleasant to work with in practice. Although we must admit we find the eye sensor a rather irksome piece of work - but to each his own! “

Nikon D200 vs Canon EOS 5D Review at DigitalCameraInfo

Nikon D200DigitalCameraInfo have published a comparative review of the new Nikon D200 and Canon EOS 5D digital SLR cameras.

”...the D200 and the 5D are the latest cameras from the leading DSLR manufacturers, and are the results of big R&D efforts. As such, they ought to show where the two companies are going, and what they’re capable of. Second, they are Canon and Nikon’s step-down models to their flagship DSLRs – both the EOS 5D and D200 represent more affordable, scaled-down versions of their top of the line cousins, with the full-frame 5D a smaller iteration of the 1Ds Mark II, and the D200 a mid-level D2X.”

Canon EOS 5D Review at Steves Digicams

Canon EOS 5DDIWA member Steves Digicams have published their review of the 12.8 megapixel Canon EOS 5D digital SLR.

“The bottom line is always image quality, and the 5D does not disappoint with its combination of 12.8-megapixel resolution, full-frame image sensor and low image noise. The 5D is capable of producing images rivalling the quality of the professional 1DS Mark II. Most pro’s will opt to shoot in RAW mode, using software tools to adjust for the desired degree of sharpness, saturation and contrast. But the 5D also produces high-quality finished JPEG images courtesy of its Picture Styles. While image noise is noticeable in midtone and shadow areas at sensitivities over ISO 800, ISO 1600 and 3200 produce very usable images.”

Canon EOS 5D Review at LetsGoDigital

Canon EOS 5DDIWA member LetsGoDigital have published their review of the 12.8 megapixel Canon EOS 5D digital SLR.

“Impressive is the Canon EOS 5D certainly where image quality is concerned in combination with the new EF 24-105 f/4 L IS USM lens. The sharpness is outstandingly high and the colour reproduction especially accurate. Picture Style lets you adjust it to your own taste. What’s more is the fact that the new Canon EOS 5D excels on noise and dynamic range. Moreover, ISO 3200 can be used perfectly for high quality prints and in light as well as dark areas the detail remains clearly visible. This is really impressive; you have to see it to believe it. The Canon 5D and the EOS-1D Mark II N are similar in this case. For the competitors it will be a hard nut to crack!”

DSLR Remote Pro v1.1 improves exposure control and adds support for new cameras

20th October, 2005 : Breeze Systems today released DSLR Remote Pro v1.1. Photographers can now use Breeze Systems’ highly regarded software to control Canon EOS 5D, 350D/Rebel XT, 20D, EOS-1D Mark II and EOS-1Ds Mark II cameras as well as the 10D, 300D/Rebel, EOS-1D and EOS-1Ds models.

This technique is particularly effective when taking interior shots or product shots without the need for sophisticated lighting.

Canon Opens Picture Style Website

Canon have launched a new website dedicated to Picture Styles, which Canon suggests is “like selecting the best film for the subject or desired photographic expression”. As well as being able to shoot pictures with the EOS 5D and EOS-1D Mark II N cameras using a specific Picture style, you can also apply them to RAW files from older Canon DSLR cameras (right back to the D30) using the newly-released Digital Photo Professional v2.0 software.

“Color creativity with digital cameras has undergone enormous development and evolution since the advent of EOS DIGITAL cameras. The results of that progress have now been incorporated into Picture Style. Many functions have traditionally had to be adjusted through the Color Matrix and Developing Parameters. Picture Style integrates these into a display that is intuitive and unambiguous for professionals working with photographic data. Selecting the optimal Picture Style is like selecting the best film for the subject or desired photographic expression. By making this selection, you can create digital data fine-tuned for certain characteristics the moment the shutter is released. Picture Style makes it possible to produce images with the same characteristics regardless of the EOS DIGITAL camera used.”
