Sony Mobile have announced two new smartphones to headline its flagship range, the Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact. The XZ2 offers the world’s 1st 4K HDR Movie recording in a smartphone. Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact are available globally from March 2018 and both will ship with Android 8.0 Oreo.

Sony today launched two new photography-focused smartphones. The Xperia XZ is a metal-backed 5.2" phablet with a Full HD screen, a 23-megapixel primary camera with a 1/2.3"-type Exmor RS imaging chip, a separate Laser AF sensor and an RGBC-IR (red-green-blue-clear-infrared) external white balance sensor, which accurately adjusts the white balance based on the light source in the environment. Additionally, the Xperia XZ provides a 13-megapixel front camera with a 22mm equivalent UWA lens and a top sensitivity setting of ISO 6,400. The Xperia X Compact is a more reasonably sized handset with a 4.6" 720p display, the same 23-megapixel main camera and "triple image sensing tecnology" as the Xperia XZ, and a 5-megapixel secondary camera for the selfie brigade. On both phones, the main camera module offers a start-up time of 0.6 seconds and Predictive Hybrid AF technology to intelligently predict and track subjects in motion. The Xperia XZ will launch globally in October 2016, whilst the Xperia X Compact will be available from September 2016.

Adobe has released Photoshop Elements 14 and Premiere Elements 14. The former now features a camera shake compensation function, a Haze Removal tool, enhanced Guided Edits, a friendlier Quick Edit mode and more precise selections. The latter adds 4K video editing, new and professional-looking motion titles, a selective-colour mode and slow-motion effects with enhanced guidance. Adobe Photoshop Elements 14 and Adobe Premiere Elements 14 are immediately available for purchase for $99.99 each. Upgrade pricing is also available for $79.99.
This weekend saw the first of five ultraviolet art murals appear across London as part of a collaboration between Sony Mobile and a series of street artists to bring to life the low-light photography capabilities of its Xperia Z3 smartphone. The project was kicked off by artist Dan Kitchener, well-known for his modern impressionistic street scenes at night. His mural adorns the Hat and Feathers Pub at 2 Clerkenwell Road and has already sparked considerable conversation on social media. The next seven weeks will see five artists in total take to the streets of the capital and create murals around the theme of ‘I Can See in the Dark’ which aligns with Sony’s latest ‘I Can’ advertising campaign. The second mural, created by artist Zina, will be live from 20th July on the Great Eastern Bear Gallery in Shoreditch.
The Sony Xperia Z3+ is a new Android phone with a 20.7-megapixel main camera and 25mm (eq.) f/2 lens. The Open and Youth winners along with the inaugural Mobile Phone winner of the Sony World Photography Awards have been announced. The Open Competition winners include Armin Appel, Hector Muñoz Huerta, Antony Crossfield, Nick Ng, Antoine Weis, Norman Quinn, Saleh Rozati, Wilson Lee, Jaime Massieu, and Yasen Georgiev. For photographers aged 19 and under and judged on a single shot, the three Youth category winners are Beatriz Mota da Rocha, Yong Lin Tan and Stephanie Anjo. The Open and Youth category winners will now compete for the overall Open Photographer of the Year and Youth Photographer of the Year titles, which will be revealed at the Sony World photography Awards gala ceremony on 23rd April in London. The Mobile Phone competition was introduced to the 2015 Sony World Photography Awards in recognition of the ability of mobile phone technology to capture everyday moments in our daily lives which would otherwise go unnoticed. The World Photography Organisation (WPO) today launched a new award dedicated to mobile photography at the 2015 Sony World Photography Awards. Photographers of all abilities have one month from today to submit their best image which answers the brief "You get out of life what you put in." The twenty best images will be shortlisted by a judging panel, and showcased on the World Photography Organisation website. The one winner will be chosen via a public vote running on the website from 10-17 March.

The six new UK-based photographers given the prestigious honour are Gavin Evans, Joe Cornish, Michael Wayne Plant, Nick Webster, Dominic Fraser and Andrew Scriven. The ambassador programme is rooted in storytelling and the world-leading photographers involved work across the globe documenting fame, fashion, culture, sportsmanship, war, human devastation, celebration and environmental shifts. Sony’s smartphone division has launched the #XperiaSpots project to inspire tourists to take better photos with their phones. The project has been initiated in partnership with Mimi Chan and Utsavi Jhaveri, who made global news earlier this year when they pinpointed the best location for tourists to capture New York and San Francisco. Sony has now brought the pair to the UK where they have applied the same painstaking process to three cities here. The Action Cam HDR-AS30V is a new, wearable Full HD camcorder from Sony. The newest Action Cam features an 11.9-megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor, a Carl Zeiss Tessar lens with a diagonal angle of view of 170 degrees, Wi-Fi connectivity with NFC (Near Field Communications) and GPS. The in-built Wi-Fi enables the Sony Action Cam HDR-AS30V to connect the optional RM-LVR1 Live-View Remote. This waterproof wristwatch-style controller communicates wirelessly to Action Cam, allowing ‘hands-off’ operation when the camera is mounted in hard-to-reach places like your helmet, kayak or surfboard. Sony Mobile Communications have just revealed their latest smartphone, the Sony Xperia ZR, which is claimed to offer the "highest level of water-resistance" for capturing photos underwater. The Android-powered Xperia ZR, which is capable of shooting Full HD videos, comes with a 13-megapixel camera module and a 4.6-inch, 1280x720-pixel "HD Reality" display featuring an "OptiContrast" panel that reduces reflections and provides clearer viewing even in bright sunlight. The built-in camera's burst mode allows users to shoot an unlimited number of images at 10 frames per second at a somewhat reduced resolution of 9 megapixels. The Sony Xperia ZR will launch in various global markets from Q2 2013.

The Sony HX100V and HX9V are two new super-zoom compact cameras with Full HD video. The HX100V has a 30x optical zoom, while the HX9V has a shorter 16x lens. Both models offer 16.2 effective megapixel Exmor R sensors, full HD video at 50 progressive frames per second, GPS/Compass function, 3.0” 921,000-dot Extra Fine LCDs, 3D Sweep Panoramas and 3D Still Images. The new Intelligent Sweep Panorama HR (High Resolution) mode captures huge panoramic images with a 10480x4096 resolution, over 40million pixels. The Sony W520 features a 14.1 megapixel CCD sensor, 5x optical zoom lens with 25mm wide angle, a 2.7” LCD screen, Sweep Panorama and Intelligent AUTO. The Party-Shot IPT-DS2 is a new docking base that automatically shoots smiling, relaxed portraits of everyone in the room.
The Sony W520 will be available from March 2011. The Sony HX100V and HX9V will be available from April 2011 for about $450 and $350. UK pricing to be announced.
Human Monitoring (HM) has announced the global availability of its new hipix still image compression technology. Designed to answer the market needs from cameras to web applications and mobile phones. hipix enables users to send and store high-resolution images at between 15% and 50% of the size of normal compressed JPEGs. To view hipix images, on a computer or mobile, users must initially download a viewer, and to create or convert images to the hipix format users need the hipix “Wiz” application.
